A reference vehicle

Another customer has a Bronco on the rotisserie (see idrivejunk blog), and happened to drive his blue F-100 to the shop one day. I seized the opportunity and snapped a few reference shots of what a stock one looks like. Notice that these are "unibody" trucks. Theres no seam between the cab and bed, and the one I'm working on is long wheelbase. it will prove to be a big challenge making a truck this long mirror-straight, stay tuned!

The first walkaround

Heres the body, as recieved. Already mounted on a dolly under the frame. The green stuff is epoxy primer that was applied after sandblasting. The black is gelcoat, the grey is primer, and well you can see how much is just bare steel. Some large sheetmetal patches had been done on the bedsides, the bed floor has been removed (will be replaced with a carbon fiber floor), a custom tailgate with hidden hinges and a wide top has been fabricated and the top rear tips of the bedsides have been extended to match the new contour. The tail lamp panels have been welded in, and the stake pockets have been filled. A custom hood has been installed, and custom console. Hood and fenders are fiberglass. Drip rails have been shaved and door top front corners rounded. Cowl has been filled, and engine compartment modified. Floors have been partially replaced, and new rocker and step plate panels have been quickly installed on one side.

Hello and welcome. I am a worker at a classic and custom shop in Arkansas, USA. This is a truck I am working on, and this blog is for posting pictures of my part of the process. I mainly do body repair on old vehicles, and enjoy sharing this information with others doing similar projects. There will be many pictures, and they all can be viewed full size by clicking the pic. Posts will be added as time permits, and as the job progresses.

The truck has a customized chassis and will sit 3-4" from the ground, pretty low. The engine will be a four-valve Ford 4.6 but thats about all I know. There have been several modifications to the body which I will reveal as I go along. Thanks for stopping in, and check back about once a week for updates!
